Jeppe Borch Delivers Denmark's First Win at GKSS Match Cup Sweden
Denmark's Jeppe Borch prevailed at the 2025 GKSS Match Cup Sweden, held June 30 to July 5 in the coastal village of Marstrand. At 27, he became the first Danish skipper to claim the title in the event's 31-year history, navigating Fareast 28R keelboats against nine other international crews. This outcome underscores a new generation's rise within a demanding sailing discipline on the World Match Racing Tour.
Overcoming Challenges on the Final Day
Borch faced his sternest tests during the concluding stages. He first reversed a deficit against Sweden's Johnie Berntsson, securing the necessary encounters to advance after initially trailing. In the deciding pairing, Borch then dominated seven-time Marstrand winner Björn Hansen—who had earlier bested Oscar Engström—by capitalizing on a penalty for course infringement and maintaining superior pace around the course.
Crew Resilience and Personal Triumph
The path demanded precision in close-quarters maneuvering amid Marstrand's variable winds and currents. Borch's group executed flawlessly in the final, sweeping both legs to clinch the result. "What an amazing day!" Borch exclaimed. "We have been here four times and to win this iconic event is incredible. I am so proud of the crew and for me personally, to come back after months of injury and to win is just awesome."
Hansen acknowledged the performance: "Jeppe and his crew sailed very fast against us. I said many years ago when Jeppe started on the World Match Racing Tour that he would be one to watch, and he has shown today what he and his crew are capable of; there will be more to come from this, I'm sure."
